General FAQ List
 
SELECTION DAY
 
1. How do I register?
 
Registering for Selection day is a simple process. Just follow these steps:
 
         1. Register in Studielink
 
            The e-mail address you register on Studielink is also your                               username for Stenden Compass.
 
            2. Sign up in Stenden Compass
 
            You should receive an email from Stenden Compass with your                            password. Please log in and verify your information.
 
** For your information: in various cases you may not receive your log in data for Stenden Compass on time or not at all, if this is the case, please contact the Stenden Hotel Management Student Center at hostprogramme@stenden.com or call 058-2441618. The Hotel Management Student Center can provide you with a username and a password if you provide us with your date of birth and postal address (for identity verification purpose).
 
            3. Sign up for a Selection Day
 
Pick a date, upload your CV (in PDF) and a picture (in JPG), and   answer the questions. These will help us in the interview               process.
 
        
Only after you have submitted all of the above information your request for selection can be processed.
 
Note: some internet browsers, such as Google Chrome, can give you some trouble when enrolling for the selection day. Mozilla Firefox works best.
 
 
2. When do I receive a confirmation?
 
10 days prior to selection day you will receive an official invitation, verifying the selection day you have chosen, the time and how to prepare for it.
 
 
3. What can I expect during the Selection Day?
  • Welcome and registration in the SUH Lobby
  • Computer based test: The computer-based test will take approximately 2 hours. This test examines your logical thinking, insight into (financial) figures, language skills, general and hospitality knowledge. The results of this test will give you insight into your future career options.
  • Speed dating with a student, industry representative and a teacher
  • Hotel and Campus tour
  • Presentation from Host Programme
  • Lunch
  • Time: approximately 10:00 until 17:00
 

 
4. When will I receive my results?
 
Within approximately 15 working days
 
 
5. When is the last possibility to register for the Selection Day?
 
It is 10 days prior to the date, but keep in mind that every Selection Day has a certain capacity. Full = full.

1. How much does it cost to study at Stenden?
 
Education expenses year 2016/2017
The tuition fees are subject to change every academic year.

2. Does it have to paid all in once?
 
No you can also pay in installments, but only if you have a dutch bank account.
 
 
3. What do I have to do when my parents pay my tuition fee?
 
If your parents pay for you then please contact IO via io@stenden.com , they will give you a form which has to be filled out.
 
 
REQUIREMENTS
 
1. What are the requirements for Dutch Students?
 
HAVO and VWO
  • Profile C & M – plus economics or management and organization
  • Profile E & M – plus a second modern foreign language*
  • Profile N & G – plus a second modern foreign language*
  • Profile N & T – plus a second modern foreign language*
*The following languages are considered as such;
  • German
  • French
  • Spanish
 
No second foreign language?
 
It is possible to sign up and go through the selection process without prior schooling in a second modern foreign language if you can demonstrate fluency on B1 (HAVO5) level. However, you will need to provide the language certificate before you can enter the selection procedure. To get the certificate so you have two options:
  • You can do a language test on a specific date (this date differs every intake) at Stenden University. To apply for this test you can download the form (under the downloads heading).
  • You can get your own certificate for B1 level at for instance LOI.
 
No Economics in your profile?
 
It is possible to sign up without prior schooling in economics if you can demonstrate your skills on HAVO5 level. To do so you have two options:
 
  • You can do a economic test on a specific date (this date differs every intake) at Stenden University. To apply for this test you can download the form(under the downloads heading).
  • You can get your own certificate at for instance LOI.
 
Note: You can only do the test after you passed selection day!

2. What are the requirements for International Students?
 
EU students applying for Bachelor
  • Copy of passport (valid during at least one year upon arrival in the Netherlands)
  • Certified copy* diploma of your prior education (in English, German, French or Dutch)
  • Certified copy of grades-sheet (in English, German, French or Dutch)
  • Your personal essay of 300-400 words in English.

* A certified copy, which is authentically signed and stamped by an authorized representative of your school/university to prove the authenticity of the copy.

 
Apply for bachelor program
  • European students must apply for a Bachelor program through Studielink.nl before the deadline and send in the above mentioned documents.
 
Non-EU students applying for Bachelor
  • Copy of passport (valid during at least one year upon arrival in the Netherlands)
  • Copy of IELTS or original TOEFL results for attesting your knowledge of English;
  • Certified copy* diploma of your prior education; (in English, German, French or Dutch)
  • Certified copy of grades-sheet;(in English, German, French or Dutch) • Curriculum Vitae in English;
  • Your personal essay of 300-400 words in English;
  • Two recent passport-type colour photos;
  • Copy of academic awards of honours, if applicable;
  • If you are a Non-EU student, who already lives in the Netherlands, you should include: A copy of your valid Dutch residence permit.
* A certified copy, which is authentically signed and stamped by an authorized representative of your school/university to prove the authenticity of the copy.
 
 
Apply for bachelor program
  • For Non- European students who apply for a Bachelor programme must apply by sending in the completed application form before the deadline to Stenden, including above mentioned documents.

STUDY START WEEK
 
1. I am not able to attend the fitting days, when can I fit my uniform?
 
The date will always be announced on Stenden Compass.
 
 
2. Where can I find the booklist?
 
Check: https://www.studystore.nl/boekenlijst
 
 
3. Which books do I need for my second foreign language?
 
Depends on the language. This can be figured out later in class.
 
 
4. Do I have to order the books via this link studystore.nl or can I get them from any other shop?
 
Books can be ordered from any store, bought second hand or borrowed from the library. This is just a suggestion.
 
 
5. Is the Study Start Week (SSW) mandatory to attend?
 
We highly recommend every new students to participate in the Study Star Week. Besides the fact that it is a week full of fun, it is the first possibility to meet your fellow students and to get important information about the Hotel Management program. However, if there is a reason why you cannot participate in the Study Start Week, we would like to ask you to send us an email to hostprogramme@stenden.com
 
 
6. I have a working contract until the end the month and cannot participate during SSW. Does that mean that I won’t be able to start studying at Stenden?
 
Not participating does not mean that you cannot start your studies here at Stenden. However, if there is a reason why you cannot participate in the Study Start Week we would kindly like to ask you to send us an email to hostprogramme@stenden.com
 
 
 7. I already have a kitchen uniform, knife set and suit comparable to the Stenden uniform. Do I need to buy the whole package or can I use my own?

You can wear your own uniform during practice in Stenden Hotel or affiliated companies if it is in compliance with the guidelines outlined here.

8. Because of my previous education I already own parts of the required uniform (Kitchen Clothes). Do I need to buy the whole Stenden Uniform?


In case that you already own a Kitchen uniform, which meets the requirements, you are entitled to purchase the light package, which consists of the Stenden suit and excludes the Kitchen Uniform and Knifeset. This light version is priced at 381€, incl. VAT.
 
9. I cannot sign in for the fitting day, the link doesn’t work.
 
Please contact suits@stendenhotel.com in order to arrange a time and date for your uniform fitting.
 
 
10. I cannot sign in for SSW, the link doesn’t work.
 
You will have to register for SSW, but you will get an email with your username and password and further instructions at the beginning of the month in which the Study Start Week takes place.
 
STENDEN COMPASS
 
1. I cannot register for the study start week and the light is red?
 
If you are an international student then we have to do it manually. Please contact hostprogramme@stenden.com for that and bring the € 95 administration fee with you to the registration.
 
 
2. Do I have to follow a Selection Day?
 
If you are a Dutch student, yes. If you are international student then no. In regards to international students they can contact io@stenden.com. If you are Dutch and doubting whether you have to follow a selection Day or not please contact hostprogramme@stenden.com.
